November/December 2008 Letters“Cityview would like to thank Bruce Hartmann and the readers of the Knoxville News Sentinel for naming us Best Local Magazine in Knoxville for 2008!”

Feel Good Treatment
Excellent article. It’s refreshing to read an article by someone who chose to have an open mind to understanding chiropractic. Thank you and may more of the media delve into this great art, science and philosophy before writing any article. Media and medical bias has kept many people away from chiropractic, when in fact chiropractic may have been the best approach for them. Science is showing that the nervous system controls who we are and how we function. Chiropractors have been teaching this for over 100 years. Yes, Dr. Palmer was a man ahead of his time, and now with the medical system in financial crisis, more than ever the world needs what chiropractors can offer. Wishing you a fabulous chiropractic experience and optimal health.

Great Article
Thank you so much for including the information on the Mission Mammography event which is sponsored by Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center and WIVK in the October issue of City View. We provided 107 FREE mammograms to women without insurance! I also want to commend you on the “It Will Never Happen to Me” breast cancer section. What a great idea to tell the stories of the four breast cancer survivors who represented all age groups. The stories were so heartwarming and inspiring. It is great to see that you and the other ladies are doing well which offers hope to other survivors. Good Job! Thanks so much.

Your article “Survivors:  Beating Breast Cancer” that ran in the October issue was marvelous. So many times our women (and men) think that breast cancer is an automatic death sentence that always “happens to someone else.” We know that is far from the truth. Thank you for featuring the many faces of survival to your readers. I was honored to participate!

September’s Dupree Article
Sad, isn’t it? Now people are published for stating the obvious. “Raise your children” is all this says. So unfortunate that it takes a “hip” magazine for people to contemplate such a thing these days. Think or (gasp) say it on your own and you’re out of touch. Read it over a glass of wine, however, and it’s profound. Mondo, cityviewmag.com

Publisher’s Letter
It was with great relief that I received your recent magazine and noticed a return to sanity courtesy of your publisher. Gone is the opium den “ euro-trash “ look of your models and descriptions of the underbelly of Knoxville. Now you are a 1st class publication, going places without pretense. I bid you good success in the stormy economic times ahead.
Floyd Howard, Jr.

I had the pleasure of reading your October edition as it was given to me upon a visit to Men of Measure!  I don’t find many media people these days having anything but doom and gloom for our lives!  It certainly was a breath of fresh air to read “From The Publisher”.  I thoroughly enjoyed City View and surprisingly read it from front to back before putting it down! Not many things catch my attention as it did but you have a very nice product!

On Destination: Chattanooga
I was on The River when the Tennessee 600 went by. I did wave. I’m a fishing guide, yet one more wonderful reason to visit the Scenic City! Thanks for visiting my hometown.

On Skin article
OUCH!  That picture hurts! This is a great article.  I love how practical you made it all.   People in general should understand that it’s a lifestyle of caring for ones skin (largest organ) rather than an after thought.  My favorite part of the article is the “sum up” at the end.  Eat right, use skin healthy products, and wear sunscreen. Kind of the same thing goes for eating.  It’s a lifestyle of eating good, not fried foods then liposuction.  :)
Keep up the good work!

On Great Smoky Mountains 75th
Laurel Falls is no more than a 2 hour hike for anyone. While often crowed the falls are nice. Best time of the day to visit them is just at daybreak when it is deserted and you may get see a turkey, deer or even bear (this trail has an active bear warning right now) on the first half of the trail  In the winter the fall become an ice sculpture.

This trail is listed by the park as handicap accessible but is steep with no guard rails. Serious injuries have occurred on this trail and parents must keep their children under control
at all times and no one should ever climb the falls.
The best part of this trail is not the falls. Continue on the trail past the falls and within 25 minutes you are in one of the only old growth forests in the area. These are the largest group of huge trees in the park that were missed by the loggers and are a sight to see. You will feel as though you are walking into a primordial forest.

I would not take small children, beginners or people very out of shape on the Abrams Falls Trail. It is moderate but climbs almost 2,000 feet and drops 2,000 feet through out the hike.
A more suitable beginner’s waterfalls trail is Grotto Falls in
the Roaring Fork section of the park just outside the city
of Gatlinburg.

Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains national park will work out the body, clear the mind and invigorate the soul. It’s also a great way to work off a few pounds at the same time.
