The Skin Wellness Center
After completing her Residency at Baylor College in Houston, Meredith T. Overholt, M.D., came to Knoxville and began practicing medicine in 1997. Three years later she expanded her practice to include medical aesthetics and cosmetics. In 2001, her practice made significant changes when she teamed up with fellow Baylor graduate, Kimberly K. Grande, M.D. Together, they started The Skin Wellness Center. With the addition of Janet McClanahan, PA-C, in 2005, they became a formidable team. Built from the ground up, The Skin Wellness Center has become a premier provider of dermatological based medical and cosmetic services in East Tennessee. While The Skin Wellness Center may sound like a spa, it is not. It is a medical practice that also offers scientifically screened, medically based, innovative products and services to benefit the health and wellness of their patients. Board certified in Dermatology, Drs. Overholt and Grande treat skin conditions for people of all ages with a comprehensive approach to health and beauty. Their focus is on prevention.
More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer were diagnosed in 2007 in the United States alone, and melanoma is the second most common cancer in women aged 20-29. “First and foremost,” says Dr. Overholt, “prevention is the key. Many skin conditions we treat, including skin cancer, can be avoided by protecting your skin with sunscreen, clothing, and hats.” Dr. Grande adds, “We would not be as busy as we are if people took better care of their skin. And it’s never too early to start.”
The Skin Wellness Center has separate reception and service areas for dermatology and cosmetics. While they are under the same roof, some cosmetics patients haven’t seen the dermatologists, and some of the dermatology patients haven’t utilized the cosmetic products and services. What is truly unique about The Skin Wellness Center is that cosmetic patients have access to dermatologists that are on-site to diagnose, and treat if necessary, skin conditions that they may not have been aware of previously.
