This room also contains a magni cent inlaid wood work table and chairs that Dana bought at Gargiulo & Jannuzzi in Sorrento, Italy. “I still haven’t found the exact place to put that,” says Dana, “it’s so gorgeous.”Moving through Gina’s art space, we come to the “spa” room with dimmed lights and space for a massage table. Dana, a very tall orthodontist, spends much of his workdays bent over, so this room was designed for massage and relaxation. Once you have seen this idea, you can’t help but wonder why it isn’t a standard part of every house. The third oor also contains an ample storage room for the house. “Dana said that he didn’t want anything in our garage except the cars,” says Gina, “so this is my garage. It’s clean, dry, and easy to get to.” It contains the usual assortment of garden implements, Christmas decorations, paint and tools.Moving back out into the main landing takes you behind two doors to the rooms that Dana has reserved for grandchildren and guests. Dana and Gina, both active with Sacred Heart Cathedral, included these rooms not only for guests but also students visiting the cathedral. The romantic qualities of the upstairs bedrooms include eyebrow dormers peeking through, steps up into the bedrooms, and good natural light. At Dana’s suggestion, they chose to leave beams exposed and painted, giving these rooms high ceilings.Large plantation shutters add privacy; each bedroom has its own closet and bathroom. It’s easy to predict that this will be a very popular spot among the seminarian corps.CREATING A LEGACYAs you leave the home, you are struck again by the simple elegance and lack of unnecessary ourishes. The structure was placed into the setting with a sense of history and community.“We always want to be true to the place we are designing for,” says Miller. “We always remember that we’re creating a legacy.”She loves writing about all kinds of fabulous homes, but when Karen Clark yearns for Edwardian elegance, she picks up a P.G. Wodehouse novel.Attractive • A ordable • Durable• Stained Concrete• Epoxy Coatings• Concrete Polishing• Concrete Overlays• Concrete Repair• Concrete CountertopsResidentialCommercial865.388.2489 • dyonconstruction.netEXACT TILE INC. 108 Hay eld Rd 37922 EXACTTILE.COMYour locally owned and operated Tile BoutiqueDESIGN SALES INSTALLATIONGLASS METAL HANDMADE TILESNATURAL STONE FIREPLACES RANGE HOODS HEATED FLOORSJANUARY FEBRUARY 2017 151
