Anna JoAuerbach
After growing up just
west of Atlanta, Anna Jo
Auerbach (aka EviLucia)
received her bachelor’Äôs
degree fromValdosta
State University. She
has a Master’Äôs in applied
educational psychology
from the University of
Tennessee and is currently
working toward her Ph.D.
in ecology and evolutionary
biology. EviLucia has been
skating with the Hard Knox
Girls for three years.
The Hard Knox Roller Girls
roller derby team keeps slammin’Äô and
elbowin’Äô their way into the hearts
of many East Tennesseans. The
Hard Knox team skated into existence in 2006 in
response to a MySpace page launched to generate
interest. Since then, the rolling thunder you
hear from the Knoxville Coliseum includes a
group of high-flyin’Äô jammers and blockers
such as Deaf Rattle, Evergreen Jean, and
Skidd Rock.
Mariah Patton
Originally fromMemphis, Mariah Patton
(aka The Tempest) came to Knoxville
to pursue her undergraduate degree in
ecology and evolutionary biology at UT.
When she’Äôs not skating, she stays busy
working as a research assistant at Nate
Sander’Äôs Community Ecology Lab, where
she studies the ecological effects of climate
change on ant colonies. Patton also works
as a research assistant at Gary McCracken’Äôs
Bat Lab, where her data collection helps
scientists better understand
howWhite Nose
Syndrome affects bats
in East Tennessee.
