TwinWillows Construction
W
hen Adam Hutsell, a graduate
of Bearden High School and the
University of Tennessee, founded
Twin Willows Construction with his life-long
friend Wes Rhoden last year, he was simply
looking to build quality homes that people
in Knoxville could be proud of. Originally a
commercial banker, Hutsell found his passion
for building homes when he built one by
himself in 2009. Convinced that construction
was his calling, Hutsell spent four years
researching ways to make the homes he built
in the Southeast as solar and energy efficient
as possible. What he found was that for the
most part, solar homes were an expensive
gimmick. Construction companies were
putting solar panels on roofs and expecting
to see utility bills lower overnight. Through
his years of research, Hutsell discovered that
it’Äôs more complicated than that. Because
the sunshine in the Southeast can be so
inconsistent, Hutsell recognized that to create
truly efficient homes, it would take more than
some solar panels. He has spent the past four
years creating a holistic approach to solar and
energy efficient construction that is affordable
for the average homeowner. ’ÄúThis is not just a
new real estate product,’Äù says Hutsell. ’ÄúWe’Äôve
created a completely new real estate market.’Äù
Twin Willows’Äô approach to energy efficient
construction is unique because it involves
almost every part of the home. Hutsell uses 11
materials that are designed to be as energy
efficient as possible. For example, Twin
Willows is the first construction company in
the Southeast offering Dow POWERHOUSE
Solar Shingles. These solar shingles are part of
a complete system for converting the sun’Äôs rays
into electricity, and let you monitor andmanage
your electricity usage in real time.
Every light fixture in a Twin Willows
home is fitted with the most
advanced, longest lasting LED light
bulb available, which uses a fraction
of the amount of electricity that a standard
light bulb uses. Another convenient feature is
the NEST Wi-Fi thermostat, which allows you
to control your home’Äôs central air system from
your smartphone no matter where you are in
the world. Being able to accurately control the
climate in your home from wherever you are
is an easy way to lower monthly utility bills.
Twin Willows installs high efficiency faucets,
toilets, and showerheads that use 30%-35%
less water than regular fixtures. High efficiency
ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, washers, and
dryers are also installed to minimize the use of
electricity as much as possible.
