LET THE WILD RUMPUS
START’ÄîIN SOUTH
KNOXVILLE!
I just wanted to send a thank you
for including South Knoxville in your
latest issue [’ÄúIt’Äôs Summer. Have Fun!’Äù
and’ÄúWhere TheWild Things Are,’Äù July/
August]. I run TREK South, so I am
very happy that there was an article
about what I do and an article about
how great South Knoxville is. We do
have a lot going for us. I think we have
had a reputation in the past that was
not appealing’Äîbut that reputation is
changing, and we are so proud of the
changes that are coming.

I just wanted to say what a pleasure
it was to see the recent articles focusing
on South Knoxville: the wonderful essay
by Joanna Henning, the section about
TREK South, and the great review of
Bayou Bay Restaurant.
I have a business in South Knoxville
and am treasurer of South Knoxville’Äôs
business association, The UrbanWilder-
nessArts &Trade District. The business
community has beenworking hard to
stay afloat during the long closure of
Henley Bridge. These articles are a great
boost to all of our businesses!
I amalso president of the South
WoodlawnNeighborhoodAssociation.
MeghanMcDonald’Äôs article highlight-
ingTREK Southwas a delight to read.
Debbie Sharp and Joanna are part of our
association and I love theway they have
involved the community in exploring the
little-known outdoor secrets of Knoxville.
I am also a Metropolitan Planning
Commission (MPC) Commissioner.
This focus on the UrbanWilderness
highlights the importance of the Urban
Wilderness to the entire city.

Great article and well researched. It’Äôs
good to see a writer dig into our area
and a magazine willing to cover it. I look
forward tomore of her work.
