144JANUARY FEBRUARY 2017memorabilia that has been passed down from her family for generations. Anold family bible, complete with names written in the back, occupies pride of place. Religious statues of Saint Teresa and others date back to the early 1900s.This small alcove opens to a large square master suite. It is a tranquil place painted in a calm greyish-brown called “Winter Gates,” with heavy crown molding in a creamy white. A portraitof Gina by Todd Haynes hangs in the master bedroom and personalizes the space. A nice change from the ballroom- sized master suites of the 2000’s, this room is scaled just right. It feels likea haven. “We had the builders put in extra insulation in the walls for both the master bedroom and the study,” says Gina. “Those two rooms are really quiet, and wonderful places to sleep and read.” Dark wood ooring from Gregory’s Flooring, used throughout the home, provide a restful contrast to the cream, white and greys of the interiors. The master bath contains Dana’s required steam shower and access to his extensive music collection, which can be streamed throughout the house. The shower is constructed in large gray slate from Exact Tile. With the bench seat and square tiles below, it’s a wide, open, comfortable space necessary to accommodate Dana’s 6’6” height.A soaking tub waits in front of wide frosted windows beneath a playful Visual Comfort chandelier constructed of what appear to be dozens of bubbles or water droplets. A contemporary xture, it somehow feels perfectly at home in this very traditional master bath and complements polished Rohl xtures from Italy, provided by Ferguson’s. Crystal doorknobs from Home Choice complete the retreat.Dana’s closet also has custom features to accommodate his height, including an extra high bar for shirts, a shoe rack, and a dressing alcove with half mirror, at the perfect height for tying his tie.
