a comedy
presented by the Clarence Brown Theatre.
The show
follows the lives of an eccentric cast both on-
and off-stage as they try, and fail, to put on a production
titled’ÄúNothing On.’Äù Tickets start at $20, and discounts are
available for UT students and faculty. The lights dim at 7:30
p.m. (or 2 p.m. for Sunday performances).
September 6-15:
A Tennessee Tradition
Come one, come all to the 94th Annual Tennessee Valley
Fair at Chilhowee Park. This year the fair will introduce an
agricultural scavenger hunt and a dog show featuring the
Marvelous Mutts, a team of talented canines trained to
dive farther, catch faster, and jump higher than your aver-
age pooches. Gates will open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
but plan on staying late to see the nightly fireworks show.
Tickets start at $7 for adults, and kids under five are free.
September 19-20:
Girls Only
Open your ears to the Eroica Trio, a Grammy-nomi-
nated musical ensemble bringing you a double dose
of Beethoven and X-chromosomes. The trio includes
Erika Nickrenz on piano, Sara Perkins on violin, and Sara
Sant’ÄôAmbrogio on cello. They have performed in venues
across the globe and now, accompanied by the Knoxville
Symphony Orchestra, they’Äôre bringing their talents to
the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets start at $26. Silence your
phones at 7:30 p.m.
October 16:
Bossy Band
Ever watched
Malcolm in the Middle
? Then you’Äôre familiar
with They Might Be Giants, an alternative rock band
formed by two Johns from Brooklyn responsible for the
show’Äôs catchy theme, ’ÄúBoss of Me.’Äù The group has won two
Grammys and is currently on tour promoting a new album
and iPhone app. Join John Flansburgh and John Linnell at
the Bijou for a night of modern rock. The show begins at 8
p.m. and tickets start at $26.50.
October 10-13, 17-20, 24-27:
Animals After Dark
If you’Äôre on the hunt for a family-friendly place to take the
kids this Halloween, look no further than the Knoxville
Zoo. For 27 years, Boo! at the Zoo has provided Halloween
fun for all ages including a trick-or-treat trail, game tent,
and a backwards-spinning’Äúhaunted’Äù carousel. Tickets are
$7. The ghoulishness begins at 5:30 p.m.
October 25 & 27:
Bad Romance
Prepare yourself for Halloween with a night of drama and
despair at the Knoxville Opera. Indulge in Jacques Offen-
bach’Äôs
The Tales of Hoffmann
, a French opera starring a poet
in search of love who is thwarted by four demonic heart-
breakers. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. on Friday and 2:30 p.m.
on Sunday, but be sure to arrive at the Tennessee Theatre
45 minutes early for a preview hosted by Maestro Salesky.
English translations will be provided via projection.
