Meghan McDonald grew up in

the same house where her mother grew
up in Gadsden, Alabama. hanks to the

woods she and her brother played in
behind that house, she also grew up loving

the outdoors and learning about plants
and animals irsthand. She received her
bachelor’s in English with a minor in

environmental studies from Birmingham-
Southern College, in Birmingham,

Alabama, in 2004. After a year in
Mississippi and a few seasons exploring

the mesas, mountains, and rocks near
Flagstaf, Arizona, she moved to Knoxville

to earn her master’s in creative writing
at the University of Tennessee. She now

works for Shelton Group, a sustainability
and energy eiciency marketing
communications agency in Knoxville.

Meghan just moved to a new house and is
looking forward to planting a garden and

sketching the neighborhood from her new
front porch swing.
